BISC 2023 RACE SCHEDULE
ALL TIMES Alaska Standard Time – 2 hours earlier than Yukon time
FRIDAY, MARCH 10
Online Registration closes at 3 pm Alaska Time (5 pm Yukon). There will be no late registration.
Volunteers may gather at Log Cabin for campout the night before, or come up early on Saturday after breakfast. Sign up on our Volunteer Local page. Volunteer shirts may be picked up at Log Cabin on race day and at the awards in Skagway Saturday night.
SATURDAY, MARCH 11
• 6 AM to 9 AM – Breakfast for volunteers and racers at Presbyterian Church Rec. Hall. (5th and Main behind church)
SMART SHUTTLE DEPARTURE TIMES:
Leave Skagway Presbyterian Church: 7:30 AM, 8:45 AM, 10 AM
Leave Log Cabin parking lot: 10:45 AM, 12 Noon, 1:30 PM
LOG CABIN PARKING LOT – Please car pool if you can. Parking will be limited to the main Log Cabin lot. No parking on the highway. Any overflow parking will have to be at the highway turnout up the hill south of Log Cabin. There will be a shuttle between parking areas. Don’t forget your passport if you are crossing the border and allow plenty of time to arrive.
SHIRT & TIMING STICK PICKUP AT LOG CABIN
• 8 AM to 11 AM at Log Cabin – Check in at official race tables between marked Race RVs in parking lot near start line. Racer and volunteer shirts may be picked up there.
• 8 AM to 11 AM Alaska Time (10 am – 1 pm Yukon time)
STARTING WINDOW: Start any time in this 3-hour window, OR you may start during the Optional Mass Start times for each race (noted below).
Regardless of starting choice, all skiers must do the following start procedure:
• Activate your timing stick at the Start Line (by “dipping” it into one of the Start units).
• Ski your chosen course (32km, 16km, 10km, or Youth 5km)
OPTIONAL MASS START TIMES: (for people looking for a higher level of competition, excitement and/or camaraderie)
9:30 AM – 32K
9:45 AM – 16K
10 AM – 10K
10:15 AM – 5K kids
NOTE: If you choose to start at the Mass Start times, plan to arrive at Log Cabin at least 30 minutes before your start to ensure you have enough time to pick up your timing stick. Then, gather in the start area to wait for the “starting howl” at the scheduled Mass Start time. There will be 5 or 6 Start units available at the start line for “dipping” your timing stick as you pass by on the way to your chosen course.
FINISHING – When you cross the Finish Line, “dip” your timing stick and turn it in ($50 will be charged for lost or damaged sticks).
COURSE CLOSES • 2 PM Alaska Time- Race course closes (4 PM Yukon)
HEADING SOUTH TO SKAGWAY AFTER RACE: In addition to passports, Canadian and other non-US citizens also must have proof of COVID vaccination to enter the United States.
AFTER THE RACE IN SKAGWAY
AWARDS CEREMONY – 5:30 PM downstairs at Skagway Brewing Co., light hors d’oeuvres provided when downstairs bar doors open at 5. Medals for top 3 male/female in each race, special awards, ski drawing for members, and the ever-popular Ms. Buckwheat presentation! Volunteers may also pick up their race shirts there.
UPDATE: BrewCo will open for Dinner upstairs in the restaurant starting at 4 PM. Reservations are essential: call 907-983-2739.
LIVE MUSIC by ‘GNAT KING KONG’ starts at 8 PM. Sponsored by LCSS, downstairs in the BrewCo bar.
